  • Elective course (Phil & Symphony exclusive)
    • Level 3 - 5

String Ensemble-This orchestra is designed for beginning students that have at least 1 year of study or are in 5th-7th grade.  Even though these are beginning students, they must audition to help us place them in the best orchestra for their level and ability.

Concert -This orchestra is designed for students that have at least 1 year of study or are in 6th-8th grade.  These students generally will be advanced beginners to lower intermediate players.

Philharmonic- Geared primarily toward students in 8th-10th grade. This ensemble will also be opened to students that would like to audition that fall in the age range of Concert but are more advanced students.

Symphony- This is our most advanced orchestra. This is primarily geared towards High School students (9th-12th grade) or students that have multiple years of experience and wish to audition for this ensemble.

Chamber-   This will be an elective which will serve as our 5th ensemble. This extended elective course is designed for advanced students where they will learn and perform professional chamber music without a conductor. Students that wish to audition for this elective must also audition and be accepted into the Philharmonic or Symphony Orchestra.

Schedule for audition slots will be sent out on June 8th to all registered students. If it is not possible for your student to audition in person or if they have a conflict with thier assigned time on June 13th, you may contact Beth at bethl@fmcm.org for instructions on how to audition.

Audition Procedures

Audition Music

The audition music consists of excerpts from the music that the orchestras will be playing during camp.  It will be emailed to students after they have registered. Two excerpts will be recommended for each orchestra; however, you should play the two excerpts that you can perform the best. You must be able to accurately and musically perform the last two excerpts to be considered for placement in the Symphony Orchestra.

Audition Process

Auditions will be scheduled for June 13th based on the number of registrations we have recieved and divided between 3 rooms. Time slots will be determined and sent out after registration closes.

Audition Packets

Click on the links below to take you to the selected excerpts for your instrument. Given in each packet are the excerpts to prepare along with recordings of the piece to give you an idea of tempos. You must prepare and record both selections for the Orchestra that you wish to audition for.
