Camp Overview

Camp will be held at First Methodist Church, 777 N. Walnut Creek Dr., Mansfield, TX 76063. 

Summer Strings is open to students who have had at least one year of instruction on a string instrument, up to those that will be high school seniors in the Fall 2025. 

All students will be placed in our Concert, Philharmonic or Symphony Orchestras. All students will be asked to audition this year. Live auditions will be held on Saturday, June 14th. 

Concert - comprised of beginner level musicians with at least one year of instruction on their instrument. 

Philharmonic - comprised of mainly middle school or intermediate level musicians with at least 2 years of instruction. 

Symphony  - comprised of mainly high school or advanced level musicians with at least 3 years of instruction. 

Chamber-  The Chamber Orchestra is currently offered as an extended elective course and is limited to students auditioning for the Symphony Orchestra only. Separate audition excerpts are required for consideration into the Chamber Orchestra.  

Chair tests will be held in sectionals on Wednesday, June 25 for all orchestras to determine chair placement for the concert.

All students will choose from the electives below for their afternoon session.

The following is a brief description of each elective:

• Theory- The study of key signatures, Circle of Fifths, time signatures, rhythms, intervals, and chords.
• Advanced Techniques- The study of advanced techniques including shifting, vibrato and bowing techniques.
• Conducting- The study of basic conducting techniques and styles.
• Ear-training- The practice of learning to accurately recognize, remember, and notate musical sounds.
• Composing- The study of creating original musical compositions.
